Dortmund: 08/03/2010

Linus Gerdeman will lead Team MILRAM in Tirreno-Adriatico (March 10 - 16 / UCI HIS) as of this coming Wednesday. The Italian stage race over a total of 1,247 kilometers will be the first hard test for the stage racers and allrounders on the German ProTour team.

„Tirreno-Adriatico is the first highest-ranked stage race for us in Europe this year,“ said Christian Henn, who together with Vittorio Algeri will lead Team MILRAM in Italy. „So it is a very important race to which we will send a strong team. We expect many small, nasty closing climbs. To win a stage, you have to be able to sprint uphill in the finale in a leading group. We are well prepared for that and have various possiblities with our team.“

At the 45th edition of the „race between the seas“ there is no individual time trial for the first time in five years. Instead, the peloton can expect the longest Tirreno-Adriatico stage in 20 years, 243 kilometers on the fourth day. The profile generally offers a variety of courses, in which stage racers as well as allrounders and sprinters should do well.

MILRAM captain Linus Gerdemann has a special tie to this race, which after the Giro d'Italia is the most important Italian stage race. He crashed here in 2008 in the individual time trial, with the overall victory within his reach, and broke his femur. This injury cost Gerdemann his chance to ride the Tour de France 2008. Last year the MILRAM captain finished the race as seventh overall.
